Anyone who know's me and my photography will tell you that I'm a big fan of black and white. On every wedding I photograph I always make sure that there are plenty of images in monochrome. If you take a look at my portfoilio over on the main site Wedding Of The Year you will find many black and white images.
For me, I often find that the best images are simple ones. Strangely, in photography, simple images are often rare to come by and difficult to create.
Converting an image to black and white can help when it comes to simplifying an image. Colour in a picture can be equally wonderful but on occasion a photograph can really spring to life once you throw all of that colour information away. Once there is no colour in an image other elements can become more apparent. I always find that strong, symetrical compositions work very well in monochrome.
Every picture in a wedding album should be telling part of the story of the wedding day. Every image has to convey it's own little message. For an album to really work I find that it's best if you tell the story in a wide range of tones. Some images shout out for your attention, others can just whisper.
Of course black and white can also lend a timeless quality to a picture. A black and white photograph could be 10 minutes or 100 years old. I think it is this factor that makes black and white so very romantic.
